Behind Every DAF is a Person with a Story

The topic of "Giving" was likely something you came across yesterday for this year's Giving Tuesday. This is one of my favorite times of year for this very notion of feeling inspired to give back and help others.

This topic of "giving" comes up every day of the year in my work and in fact there has been a theme related to DAF giving that has come up countless times the past few years. Whenever I share my experience of working with DAF donors, I often encounter curiosity or even frustration about why so many DAF accounts appear "dormant".

I often explain that behind every DAF is a person with a story — and usually a reason why their funds aren’t fully active just yet. In the spirit of generosity, I’ve created a simple resource outlining common DAF Donor Archetypes I have seen over the years, along with practical ways to help activate their giving.

My hope is that this is useful to those across the non-profit sector, whether you are a fundraiser or part of one of the nearly 1,200 DAF-sponsoring organizations — and that together, we can inspire more donors and spark more hope this Season of Giving.
